Urban Asia

7th annual IIAS-TU Delft seminar, convened by Dr Ir Gregory Bracken

7th annual IIAS-TU Delft seminar convened by Dr Ir Gregory Bracken, who is a Research Fellow at the International Institute for Asian Studies (IIAS) Leiden and Assistant Professor of Architecture at TU Delft.

This is the latest in a series of spring seminars that explores the urban environment of Asia from a variety of different multidisciplinary perspectives. This particular seminar, entitled ‘Urban Asia’, will look at a number of different themes, including the urban transformation that took place in Japan after World War II; conditions in the slums of Mumbai, particularly the plight of Dalit women there; Hong Kong’s urban identity; and the related topic of the emergence of a Chinese urban subjectivity. Finally, Dr Bracken will present one of the key concepts from his forthcoming book Asian Cities Colonial to Global (Amsterdam University Press, May 2015): a collection of the best papers from the 5th annual IIAS-TU Delft seminar which took place in Leiden in 2013.
