Barbara Čurda
Anthropologist. Marie Curie alumnus on the MSCA-IF-GF project GATRODI.
IIAS HAB has been a repetitive collaborator of the project GATRODI, a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions - Individual Fellowship - Global Fellowship (MSCA-IF-GF) action. This had a very positive impact on the implementation of the project. The collaboration included participation in the short term study programs SSWS 2022: Social Sciences Winter School in Pondicherry held at the University of Pondicherry, co-organised and supported by several research institutions from Europe and South Asia, and the workshop Writing without fear, held at the IFP, Pondicherry, in 2023. It comprised academic debates such as the workshop Transmitting know-how in a shifting world – perspectives from the social sciences, organised in 2023 at the IFP in Pondicherry, and the conference panel Know-how in a shifting world held at ICAS 13 in Indonesia in 2024. A publication project is in progress in the HAB Methodologies book series of AUP (Amsterdam University Press).
The activities fostered collaboration among academics in all stages of their career, involved in research in a great number of countries including Brazil, India, Poland, France, Indonesia – and among a vast network of research organisations from Europe and South Asia. They contributed to the higher education of students, and to international academic debates, notably via conference presentations and written publication projects. The international outreach and the collaborative network they mobilised are remarkable.
Being able to connect the different levels of activities of the academic sector with such efficiency is rare. It potentiates research outcomes, by connecting research topics to broader themes, by extending scientific communication beyond disciplinary and geographical borders. Such a venture requires institutional support, as well as specific competences – in this respect, I particularly thank Aarti Kawlra for her ingenious initiatives fostering cooperation, broadening the scope for debates, promoting pedagogic actions. I therefore wish to express my strong support to IIAS, with the wish that it continues to provide these unique openings within the academic sector.
