Korea is rapidly changing from industrial based society to informational one. From 1973 Korea had devoted people's energy and national resources to catch up with the western industrialization. Heavy industry complexes were built in new strategic cities like Pohang, Ulsan, Kumi, and Changwon. Finally after the Seoul Olympic in 1988 Korea could usher in the stage of mass production and consumption, that is, Korean style Fordism.
In 1990s Korea had to find new way of accumulation. The lifestyle and consumption structure had changed from material to cultural one. The new economy sectors led by mobile phone and Internet-based business were settled down. Traditional industries were diminished while new economy sectors including movies and music industries were rapidly established.
New economy and digital media is now become main factor which lead current economy and culture in Korea. Young people cannot live without mobile phone and Internet. Digital reproduction opened new public sphere and alternative lifestyle. It is different from mass production and consumption style of mechanical reproduction. In this survey I'll find the special aspects of digital culture of Korea. Digital media has common effects on society and culture regardless of the countries. But it also has special effects on different countries. I'll disclose the reasons of particular phenomena in Korea from the perspective of mediology.
