Sarah Easterby-Smith is a senior lecturer in modern history at the University of St Andrews, Scotland. A social and cultural historian of science, especially botany, her work focuses on French, British, and global histories of the eighteenth century. Much of her research has focused on how access to cultures of knowledge was permitted and constrained, and on the research potential offered by material culture.
