The Max Weber Forum, Delhi, is a German research institute abroad in the humanities and social sciences under the umbrella of Max Weber Stiftung, Bonn, and funded by the German federal government. As an institute abroad, the Forum conducts research according to its own research agenda, but is also tasked with developing links and building bridges between academic communities internationally and in the host country. Research at the MWF emphasizes historical and anthropological approaches to the study of South Asia (and transnational South Asia), but is open to collaborations with neighboring disciplines. The institute’s core team of scholars work in the following areas: (1) education and learning; (2) economy and knowledge; (3) knowledge production and circulation. Projects in collaboration with shorter-term fellowships or external partners include other areas of research.
The Max Weber Forum offers a:
- A vibrant scholarly community with strong links in India, Europe, and internationally;
- Regular events with our partner institutions in India and beyond;
- Regular colloquiums for presenting work-in-progress;
- Access to digital resources through Max Weber Stiftung and its institutes.
Prospective applicants should have a disciplinary background in history, anthropology, or neighbouring disciplines. Interdisciplinary approaches are strongly welcomed. They should have a strong interest in undertaking scholarly projects related to the South Asian region, or a transregional focus that includes a major interest in South Asia. Applicants are advised to check compliance with visa/residence requirements for India before applying.
