The array of background gives birth to AIIOC’s three thematic focuses, 1) urban and heritage, 2) health and knowledge, and 3) environment and climate resilience. These themes guide AIIOC's various working methodologies that encompass, but are not limited to, public discussion, exhibition, podcast, workshop, and other means. AIIOC strives to create a space where knowledge is co-produced and co-disseminated by actors within and beyond academia.
AIIOC offers a space where applicants can immerse themselves in the bustling veins of Surabaya as an urban gateway to Indonesia’s eastern part and the Indian Ocean, and in UNAIR's lively multi-disciplinary and multi-sited intellectual space. Most importantly, groundedness in Surabaya is one approach that AIIOC advocates. Being in and feeling Surabaya are expected to cultivate a sensitivity of Surabaya as a method and to broaden applicants intellectual horizon.
We invite applicants who are eager to work beyond disciplinary boundary, to co-produce knowledge collegially, and to learn about their contextual surrounding suit AIIOC’s vision. Applicants can come from various backgrounds not limited to AIIOC’s four faculties’ expertise. AIIOC is connected to all faculties at UNAIR, thus applicants who wish to collaborate with UNAIR scholars will be facilitated by AIIOC. Aside from conventional academia working zone, AIIOC also welcomes artistic-oriented and creative-based methodologies that define applicants’ profile. A combination of multi-methodological approaches is an exciting future that AIIOC aims to cultivate.
