A Writing and publishing workshop for researchers
We invite researchers in the broad field of Asian studies to share new or forthcoming publication projects with a view to honing their ideation and writing skills through constructive feedback.
Participation is on invitation only. If you are interested in participating in this workshop, please send us your cover letter and abstract by April 7.
The Workshop
Can you frame an argument, discuss your methods and deliver your empirical findings in a succinct presentation for peer review? We invite researchers in the broad field of Asian studies to share new or forthcoming publication projects [books, book chapters or essays] with a view to honing their ideation and writing skills through constructive feedback.
Each presenter is asked to provide a 500-word abstract for circulation ahead of the event [by 8 April] and to present for 10 minutes [1000 words] with 4-6 slides during the workshop.

Organisation
This workshop is jointly organised by the International Institute for Asian Studies (IIAS) and the Leiden University Institute for Area Studies (LIAS). It is hosted by by Professor Anoma Pieris and Professor Nira Wickramasinghe.
Anoma Pieris is a Professor of Architecture at the Melbourne School of Design, Australia. Her training is in architectural history and in geography with a specialist focus on postcolonial and subaltern studies methods as applied to the architecture of South and Southeast Asia. She has published widely on issues of nationalism, citizenship and sovereignty.
Nira Wickramasinghe is a Professor of Modern South Asian Studies at Leiden University. She is a historian of Sri Lanka and the Indian Ocean world whose work focuses on subaltern groups under colonialism. Her recent publications have dealt with slavery and resistance in the Indian Ocean, and she is currently the principal investigator of an NWO project called Forgotten Lineages: the Afterlives of Slavery in the Indian Ocean World.
