Misalignments – Laura Erber in conversation with Chinese artist Peng Zuqiang
A Conversation Session with Chinese artist Peng Zuqiang and Laura Erber, Coordinator of the Fellowship Programme at IIAS.
This conversation takes place in the IIAS conference room from 16:00 – 18:00 p.m. Amsterdam Time (CEST); it will not be streamed or recorded.
Everyone is welcome to attend. Please register, as seating is limited, and we would like to know how many people to expect.
The Conversation
This conversation session starts with an artist talk by Peng Zuqiang on his recent projects - with an interest in the affective meaning within histories, bodies, and language - and his experiments with celluloid film material on recording violence and resilience. It is followed by a conversation with Laura Erber on working in between artistic contexts.
Peng Zuqiang is currently an artist in residence at the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam. His video works create a lyrical vantage point for observing the small gestures that make up the fabric of relational experiences: cutting someone's fingernail, transferring boiling water from one container to another, killing a mosquito that insists on biting our leg. His works incorporate literary and musical references, as well as the history of China in the 20th century, and propose other perceptions of duration, time and belonging.
The Speakers
Peng Zuqiang is an artist working with film, video and installations. Recent exhibitions and screenings include Cell Project Space, E-Flux screening room, Schirn Kunsthalle Frankfurt. From 2022-2024, he is a resident artist at Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten (Amsterdam). He lives and works in Amsterdam.
