This seminar discusses central-provincial relation during China's reform era from the perspective of rent theory. It looks at the establishment of Science and Technology Industry Parks as a case study. The setting up Science and Technology Industry Parks has major implications in both national and local economic development. By analysing the formation and the characteristics of "rent relations", this seminar aims to discuss how such relations shape and are shaped by selective policies.

Cunyi Yin is a Professor at the School of Public Policy and Management of Tsinghua University, China. He specialises in regional development and is currently a member of the Leiden-Tsinghua joint project on the Political Economy of Rent Seeking and Economic Privilege in China.
