From 25-29 September a Summer School on Asian Food: History, Anthropology, Sociology will take place in Leiden, the Netherlands. It is co-organized by the International Institute for Asian Studies (IIAS), the LeidenAsiaCentre (LAC), and the Shared Taste Project at Leiden University. When a mix-up occurs in the intricate system of lunchboxes (dabbawalas) in the large Indian city of Mumbai, a young woman accidentally cooks lunch for an older widower, leading to unexpected encounters which change the characters’ lives. Nominated for the 2015 British Academy Film Awards, this charming film shows the importance of food on many levels in modern Indian society.
The film will be introduced by Anne Sytske Keijser, lecturer in modern Chinese, Chinese literature and film at Leiden University.
