Event — EPA Lecture Series

How China's energy demand is affecting Latin America

In this seminar we will learn about the regional, national and local effects of the Chinese energy demand, investments and loans in Latin America.

China’s huge demand for energy is increasingly affecting the rest of the world. This is also the case for the resource-rich region of Latin America. In only a few years’ time, Chinese imports, investments, loans and policies have become very influential in Latin American countries with major oil reserves. In this seminar we will learn more about Chinese challenges, policies and company strategies, and about the regional, national and local effects of the Chinese energy demand, investments and loans in Latin America.

About the Energy Programme Asia (EPA)

Launched in 2002, the EPA-research programme of IIAS is designed to study the effects of global geopolitics of energy security on the one hand, and policy to increase energy efficiency and estimating the prospects for the exploitation of renewable energy resources on the other. This joint comparative research project will analyse China’s increasing involvement with governments, local institutions and local stakeholders in the energy sectors of a number of resource-rich countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America (notably Sudan, Ghana, Saudi-Arabia, Iraq, Iran, Venezuela, and Brazil). | Read more
