NICAM Workshop organized by Asia Studies in Amsterdam (ASiA) and Netherlands Institute for War Documentation (NIOD)

Venue: NIOD / Netherlands Institute for War Documentation, Herengracht 380, Amsterdam

For the fourth year Asian Studies in Amsterdam (AsiA) and the Netherlands Institute for War Documentation (NIOD) jointly organize a series of NICAM-lectures on ethnic Chinese in East and Southeast Asia and their migrant descendants the world over. This year two NICAM workshops are planned each bringing together four lectures, which discuss ethnic Chinese families in Asia from various angles. In particular, the papers will focus on the role and workings of ethnic Chinese family networks in times of turmoil and regime change. This approach enables us to study informal, at times transnational, networks and how these shaped patterns of social mobility, processes of identification, the forging of political ties, and business strategies.
