De-centering the Discourse on Asian Studies
This roundtable will discuss the movement of the study of Asia from a Western-centered model to a global initiative.
The first roundtable, “De-centering the Discourse on Asian Studies,” will discuss the movement of the study of Asia from a Western-centered model to a global initiative. Specifically, it will ask: What epistemological queries arise when interactions and intersections between two continents are subjected to analysis by the intellectual paradigms and cultural presumptions of a third? What chances are there for uncovering, recovering and discovering wholly new epistemologies and methods more congruent with the multi-polar impulses of this new initiative? It will bring together a number of “historic” participants from Africa, Asia and Europe/North America.
